What is my website first impression and how do I fix it.

What is a website first impression?

I know this seems like a silly question.  Just look, right?  There is a perception that our viewers see our “Front Page”,  but in most sites there are many entrance and exit doors and the fact is that for many of us, most of our viewers don’t use the “front door”.   Some never even see it.  This means that  designing for all the other entrances is just as important, if not more important, than how our home page looks.

This is why you need to understand where your visitors are coming from, that is, how are they getting to your site.  Here is a look at sources for one of our sites:

website first impression

66% of this site’s traffic is coming in from search traffic and most of that is organic (typed in searches).  That means users are entering through links generated via Google, so this site designer better understand how the site looks when that user enters, because 2 out of 3 users see this as the front door.  Only about 20% of the users type in http://www.site.com and come in directly through the actual front door.  So make sure your side door is painted too!
